P&O Nedlloyd joint venture under threat

Peninsular and Orient Steam Navigation (P&O) is reported to be intensive talks about reversing its joint venture with Royal Nedlloyd - P&O Nedlloyd - formed in 1996. Although the two companies have declined to comment on the negotiations, Royal Nedlloyd chairman, Leo Berndsen is said to be trying to force a reverse flotation of P&O Nedlloyd. The Dutch company has said that if the discussions failed, it would prefer one company to buy out the other's shares.
