Last year proved eventful for the port of New York and New Jersey (NY/NJ). Throughput continued to grow, several shipping lines began new services, and the resolution of the Maersk Sealand dispute led to the awarding of several concessions at the port. However, growth at the port has proved a mixed blessing. A report recently commissioned by the port authority states, "If the volume of traffic grows as expected, the port could be out of container-handling capacity as early as 2004."
