You don't need an advanced degree in architecture or fancy CAD software to design in three dimensions; you just need Google. Specifically, you need SketchUp, Google's 3-D modeling program, which, with enough practice, lets you create digital versions of buildings, cars or any other objects you dream up. Though not quite as sophisticated as some high-end programs, SketchUp includes all the drawing, lighting and texturing tools you're likely to need. Plus, the basic version of the software is free.
