Seeing The Light

Sony's XR520V high-def camcorder packs a tot of new tech, starting with a CMOS image sensor that captures crisp video even by candlelight. Circuitry in other sensors blocks some light from reaching the photo diodes in each pixel. Sony moved that wiring to the back of the chip to let more photons through, and it designed more-precise micro-lenses over each diode to ensure that light doesn't spill onto neighboring diodes.
