Quick Trick: Media Blasting

We got real familiar with the sandblasting cabinet at Heath Elmer's Restorations. We used it to strip off chrome and old paint on too many parts to count. We used sand, which is very abrasive; the texture it leaves is rough, flat, uniform, and industrial looking-perfect for the race car feel. Because of the rough texture, paint adheres to it very well, and it even looks good bare in some instances. If you have access to a media blast- ing cabinet, all you're out of is your time. If you like the look and use it a lot, you can buy a media blasting cabinet from Eastwood for about $1,000. It's a nice addition to any serious garage.
