Now that Chevrolet has dropped its newest V-8 on the world-the Gen Ⅴ LT1-the history book is, for all intents and purposes, closed on the LS engine. It's hard to believe, but it seemed like only yesterday that we stopped the presses to tell you about the groundbreaking LS1 late in 1996. That was 17 years ago. In that time, the LS grew in power and size, permutating into iron-block truck and flexible fuel variants, then adding active fuel management, variable valve timing, and supercharging in the Gen Ⅳ versions. There are now so many LS variants that even the LS experts don't really know them all. And like the Gen-V LT1 that we ogle at now, the LS1 made its first appearance to the world in the Corvette, built in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
