CHARNEY DART GOES 10.17 AT 134 MPH

When we brought you the story on Greg Charney's '68 Dodge Dart in our Nov. 13 issue ["Street Super Stacker"], we told you the all-aluminum 410ci small-block Mopar with its Liberty-shifted five-speed was all but ready to hit the track. Bad weather had dogged Charney for months as he attempted to get the Super Stocker-themed street car out to the drags. Charney finally succeeded on Wednesday, October 9 at Milan Dragway in Milan, Michigan. Driving in right off the street, Charney went a 10.18, then a 10.17/134. With the Mickey Thompson radials heated up, his best 60-foot time was a 1.85. Charney told us: "The launch felt great. I had no idea when I first let the clutch out what would happen. I had set the ladder bars, springs, and shocks as neutral as possible and the car makes a slight move to the right.
