摘要

Polystyrene nanoparticles (nPS) in the range of 10-100Â nm are synthesized by microemulsion process. In this process ammonium persulphate (APS) as an initiator, sodium dodecyl sulphate as a surfactant and three types of cosurfactants i.e., n-hexanol, n-pentanol and n-butanol are used. It is observed that n-hexanol is more effective than n-butanol and n-pentanol due to higher chain length of the hydrocarbon group, stabilizes the microemulsion more effectively and results spherical shape nanoparticles with particle size within 100Â nm. Particle size, purity and thermal properties of nPS are investigated by TEM, FTIR Spectroscopy and DSC, respectively.
