Characteristics of nonionic surfactants having different hydrophilic groups appeared on the phase diagram of a water/surfactant/oil three components system. Diglyceryl a-monododecyl ether is a nonionic surfactant with hydroxyl groups as the hydrophilic moiety and in this study was found capable of solubilizing 6/100 water into dodecane solution using only 1% surfactant. Essentially the same was noted for 5/100 hexaoxyethylene mono dodecyl ether near the HLB-temperature for either of these compounds. The polyglycerol surfactant is thus shown to function effectively at water-oil interface in the presense of only a small amount of surfactant. Polyglycerol surfactants are thus also shown insensitive to temperature since the so1ubilization curve expanded considerably in the vertical direction. Polyglycerol surfactants are clearly shown by this study to have high performance when using aromatic hydrocarbons.
