On the ozone protection of polymers having non-conjugated unsaturation

The current technology in ozone protection of rubber compounds is reviewed. The topics covered are both static ozone protection involving the use of paraffin wax and the dynamic ozone protection which involves the use of disubstituted p-phenylendiamines. The review is integrated with the experimental evaluation in a standard rubber compound of the most common substituted p-phenyle- nediamines (included a non-staining type). The ozone resistance under dynamic conditions and the flex-fatigue life of the rubber compounds are discussed.
