Irradiation by light is considered to be one of the primary sources of damage to the cellulose matrix under environmental conditions. In this study, a laminated assembly method was used to coat 2, 4-dihydroxybenzophenone (UV-0) and hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) on the paper surface to form a light-shielding layer. The coating material was characterized by UV-vis and FTIR. The photostability of the coating treatment was further evaluated by comparing the measured values of UV-vis, infrared spectrum, degree of polymerization, tensile strength, folding endurance and chromaticity before and after accelerated aging for two kinds of paper samples. The results demonstrated that the coating treatment could significantly enhance the photodurability of cellulose-based materials with different pigments under accelerated UV aging conditions.
