摘要

The aim of this work was to assess the pollution status of soil samples collected from Njeliamparamba, a municipal solid waste dumping site in Kozhikode, Kerala, India, using pollution indicators. For this purpose, leachate and fifty soil samples at two depths were collected and analysed. The physico-chemical characteristics of the samples revealed that, the samples were acidic in nature and the mean value obtained for the major ions (cations and anions) in soil samples is in the following order: exchangeable calcium> sodium> potassium> magnesium> inorganic phosphorous and sulphate>chloride>alkalinity. The heavy metals such as Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn were detected in all the analysed soil samples and were found to be within the CCME soil quality limit except Pb. The results of the enrichment factor and contamination factor revealed that, most of the soils samples could be considered as low contamination rate for Cu, Ni, Zn, Cd; moderate and considerable rate for Pb.
