DETECTIVE SERGEANT DENIS MICHAEL CREMIN AWARDED THE BRITISH EMPIRE MEDAL FOR GALLANTRY

During the night of the 15th/16th April, 1941 houses in Eastland Street, Belfast were demolished by a direct hit from a high explosive bomb, killing some residents and trapping others. Detective Sergeant Cremin, who was based at Springfield Road RUC Barracks, Belfast, made his way to Eastland Street where he searched through the wreckage for survivors. Having broken down the door of a house, he rescued a man and a woman from under a pile of debris.
