POLICE MUSICAL DIRECTOR D.I. GEORGE FERGUSON RETIRES

District Inspector George C. Ferguson. Director of Music. RUG Band has retired after giving 36 and half years service to the development of music in the Police Service. In November, 1905, Belfast Corporation selected Mr. Ferguson as bandmaster when it was decided to form the Royal Irish Constabulary ; (Belfast) Band. There were many initial difficulties, only two of the 50 volunteers for the Band having experience as players and 17 an elementary knowledge of music; but with the capacity and skill of their conductor, plus four house intensive training each day, the first concerts were most creditable.
