Much has changed in policing in Ireland in the last century.The following are extracts from "Standing Rules and Regulations for the Government and Guidance of the Royal Irish Constabulary" (Sixth Edition) (HMSO Dublin 1911) detailing some of what was expected from the constabulary who performed day to day duty with the public. However some things never change, some readers might see parallels from aspects of their own service.
