The patient was referred to the clinic by a vascular surgeon who had been approached for a second opinion. The patient has sought a second opinion following recommendation of a below-knee amputation when she consulted a different vascular surgeon.rnThis 70-year-old female ex-smoker had a history of peripheral vascular disease with no option of vascular reconstruction.rnShe had a nine-year history of rheumatoid arthritis and a seven-year history of hypertension. Diabetes was diagnosed three years following initial presentation of foot ulceration.rnThe patient had numerous adverse reactions to multiple antibiotic types employed to manage foot infection.
