Japanese trade group seeks third-party access to RFS fuel storage facility

The Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan is seeking to reach an agreement with Recyclable-Fuel Storage Co. so that a third party could use the company's interim dry spent fuel facility at Mutsu City in Aomori prefecture, FEPC said in a statement Dec. 17. The “third party” refers to Kansai Electric Power Co., Kansai Electric spokesman Kanta Kokaji acknowledged in an interview Dec. 17. The company has been seeking a solution for interim storage of spent fuel from its reactors. RFS is 80% held by Tokyo Electric Power Co. and 20% owned by Japan Atomic Power Co., both of which plan to store spent fuel at the facility.
