Sales up in 2010 led by demand recovery

Freeport produced 72 million lb of molybdenum nin 2010, up from 54 million lb the previous year, nthe US miner said Thursday. Sales, excluding npurchased metal, reached 67 million lb at an naverage realized price of $16.47/lb, up from 58 nmillion lb at $12.36/lb in 2009. The company nattributed the 16% year-on-year increase in sales nto improved demand in the chemicals sector. nFourth-quarter 2010 consolidated molybdenum nsales of 17 million lb were higher than the nOctober 2010 estimate of 15 million lb primarily nbecause of stronger demand in the metallurgical nsector, Freeport added. Q4 2009 sales stood nat 16 million lb. For 2011, Freeport expects nmolybdenum sales from its mines to be around n70 million lb, the company added.
