World daily primary aluminium output averagedn66,500 mt/day in May, up fromn66,100 mt/day in April and also up fromn63,400 mt/day in May 2009, according tonfigures released Monday by thenInternational Aluminium Institute. Total productionnin May (31 days) was 2.063 millionnmt, up from 1.983 million mt in April (30ndays) and from 1.966 million mt in Mayn2009. For the entire January-May period,ndaily average aluminium production totaledn65,500 mt/day, up from the 65,200nmt/day in January-May 2009. Similarly,ntotal production for the January-May periodntotaled 9.892 million mt, up from 9.845nmillion mt in the January-April 2009 period.nChina’s primary aluminium output dippednin May, however, averaging 45,700 mt/dayn— down from 46,400 mt/day in April butnup from 31,700 mt/day in May 2009,naccording to IAI figures. Total production innMay was 1.418 million mt, up from 1.392nmillion mt in April and from the 984,000nmt produced a year earlier in May 2009.nFor January-May, daily average productionnwas 45,400 mt/day, up from 30,000nmt/day in the first five months of 2009.nTotal production reached 6.859 million mt,nup from 4.523 million mt in the year-earliernperiod.
