With the industry’s long-term secular trend toward electrification,Sempra Energy continues to reorient its portfolio toward transmissionand distribution, executives said May 5.“As you think about the outages in California last summer andsome of the things that Texas has gone through, we really think thebest risk-adjusted returns near term and long term for our investors isto continue to take a leadership position in owning more energy grids,”said Jeffrey Walker Martin, Sempra chairman, president and CEO,during the company’s first-quarter 2021 earnings call. “As you thinkabout renewables over the next 20 or 30 years potentially doublingacross the country, we really think this grid position is going to be veryimportant. We find Oncor to be a very attractive investment. We think ithas a really important leadership position in the Texas market.”
