SMUD sets carbon reduction plan it calls the 'most ambitious' by a large US utility

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District is the latest large utility toadopt a zero-carbon plan, aiming to reach its goal by 2030 by triplingrenewable capacity and pursing emerging technologies.The SMUD board approved what it called the “most ambitiouscarbon reduction plan by any large utility in the nation” during its April28 board meeting. In July 2020, the board adopted a ClimateEmergency Declaration and asked staff to develop a plan to expeditecarbon reduction “due to growing threats of climate change,” SMUDsaid in a statement.
