ISO New England files final capacity auction clearing prices with FERC

ISO New England filed finalized capacity auction clearing prices for its 15th forward capacity auction with federal regulators Feb. 26, confirming clearing prices ranging from $2.48 per kilowatt-month to $3.98 kW-month for the 2024/25 capacity commitment period. Capacity prices cleared up from a record-low clearing price of $2.00/kW-month in FCA 14. The FCA 15 auction resulted in the capacity clearing price of $3.980/kW-month for the Southeast New England Capacity Zone, $2.477/kW-month for Northern New England and Maine zones, and $2.611/kW-month for the Rest of Pool Capacity Zone, ISO-NE told the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. ISO-NE capacity prices declined every year since FCA 9 when they neared $10/kW-m and bottomed at $2.00/kW-m in FCA 14, before increasing by as much as 99% in FCA 15. The net installed capacity requirement, which serves as the key parameter driving changes to the demand curve used in the auction, increased 780 MW from FCA 14, driven primarily by a forecast load increase, according to S&P Global Platts Analytics.
