The current and scheduled pace of coal-fired power plant retirements needs to speed up in the next few years and emissions from their gasfired counterparts must be eradicated for US companies to reach their decarbonization goals, Deloitte said in a report released Sept. 21. In a report titled, "Road to Net Zero Reality Check: So Much To Do, In So Little Time," Deloitte said "the math is not adding up across the phases required to achieve decarbonization in the next 30 years," and it asked, how can utilities close that gap and at what cost?
