Power utilities serving the South Texas region hit hard by Hurricane Hanna over the weekend – cutting power to about 350,000 customers – have made good progress in restoring service, which is reviving the region's power demand and prices. After strengthening rapidly overnight July 24 and during the day July 25, the storm made landfall around 5 pm as a Category 1 hurricane at South Padre Island and continued west and southwest, dissipating over northern Mexico, with bands of rain and wind causing outages in the Houston area, almost 300 miles northeast.
