New Mexico PRC considering solar, battery storage to replace San Juan coal plant

The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission is considering a mix of solar and battery resources to replace the nearly 500 MW that will be lost when units 1 and 4 of the coal-fired San Juan generating station close in 2022. Following a presentation July 15 from the PRC hearing examiner's office on recommended resource replacements, the commission is expected to take action on the item at its July 29 meeting. This allows the Public Service Company of New Mexico to meet the July 30 contract deadline it has with the potential new resources, which has already been extended 90 days.
