ERCOT day-ahead falls on surging wind generation despite higher expected demand

Next-day power prices in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas footprintwere pushed lower Wednesday, pressured by higher wind generationexpected Thursday, more than offsetting the effects of rising demand.North Hub day-ahead on-peak was about $6 lower on the day inthe high $20s/MWh on the Intercontinental Exchange, while itsbalance-of-the-week on-peak was valued in the mid-$20s/MWh.Much higher wind generation was expected overnight, as dailyaverage output was set to rise from 6.6 GW Wednesday to 10.2 GWThursday, an increase of over 54% and about 45% higher than themonth-to-date level.
