Community choice aggregators are objecting to Pacific Gas and ElectricCo.'s effort to build microgrids at 20 substations to serve customers duringthe utility's public safety power shutoffs aimed at preventing wildfires.Recent, repeated shutoffs to thousands of the utility's customershave been widely unpopular, but Pacific Gas and Electric, or PG&E, hassaid the actions will continue to be needed to prevent high winds fromknocking down energized power lines and starting wildfires.The utility, which along with its parent is in bankruptcy proceedingslargely due to thousands of wildfire damage claims, accordingly issueda request for proposals for microgrids capable of providing power tocommunities impacted by shut-offs to come online before the 2020wildfire season in 20 select areas.
