Kentucky power interests sought to debunk the bad rap the statesometimes incurs for its support of and continued reliance on coalfiredpower plants, insisting that there are ways to transition to aclean-energy economy without prematurely shutting reliable,affordable baseload generators.As the fifth-largest coal producing state in the US, with the thirdlargestshare of net electricity generation from coal, Kentucky remainsvertically integrated and heavily dependent on fossil fuels. It has nointention of “jumping on the bandwagon” with states making 100%renewable energy commitments, Kentucky Public Service Commissionmember Talina Mathews said Monday at the inaugural Envision Forumheld in Lexington, Kentucky.
