The nonhazardous classification of utility solid wastes from clean coal technologies is not surprising, and the consensus surrounding that conclusion is encouraging because it means that any solid waste management practices expected from a maturing advanced coal-based electric utility industry will not add to the burden of the industry. This conclusion is based upon the solid waste management practices of participants in 19 coal-based utility CCT demonstration projects that were negotiated with state environmental regulatory agencies.
