NYMEX December gas strengthens on rising heating demand

The front-month natural gas futures contract settled 1.70 cents higher at $2.791/MMBtu on Friday, as winter heating demand for gas ramps up to keep the Midwest and Northeast warm. The contract moved in a range of $2.755-$2.822/MMBtu on Friday. S&P Global Platts Analytics projected that US domestic demand for gas would average 92.2 Bcf/d for the next seven days. Higher residential and commercial demand for gas was expected to drive the increase, with residential/commercial demand set to average 38.4 Bcf/d for the next week.
