PJM summer power prices lowest in six years on demand shifts, lower fuel prices

Summer 2019 real-time power prices in PJM Interconnectionaveraged $25.15/MWh, the lowest in six years, as the hottestweather occurred during lower demand periods and lower fuelprices appear to have pulled power prices down, the grid operatorsaid Wednesday.“In addition to the hottest weather in the summer of 2019 occurringduring times when electricity usage is typically lower (Fridays andweekends), lower fuel prices in 2019 may have also contributed to low[locational marginal prices] LMPs,” PJM said in its summer operationsreport covering June 1 to September 15.
