Modesto Irrigation District to join western Energy Imbalance Market

The board of directors of the Modesto Irrigation District unanimouslyvoted to have the district's electric power service participate in theCalifornia ISO's western Energy Imbalance Market, or EIM, by 2021.Modesto owns and operates all or major portions of sevenhydropower and gas-fired plants and serves about 123,000 electriccustomers. It also provides water service in California's Central Valley.The EIM is a voluntary, automated real-time energy wholesalemarket that matches the lowest-cost electricity supply with customerdemand. The EIM reported $86 million in savings for its members inthe second quarter of 2019 alone and gross benefits of more than$736 million since late 2014.
