Ontario power grid operator plans annual capacity auctions starting in 2022

Ontario's power grid operator plans to start holding annual capacityauctions as it moves away from long-term purchase contracts, a moveit said will save ratepayers in Canada's most populous province C$3.4billion (US$2.6 billion) over 10 years.The Independent Electricity System Operator, or IESO, said the firstauction is planned for late 2022. The organization released what itcalled "a high-level design" for the auctions March 25. The IESO saidthe new system will allow it to tap electricity resources at the lowestpossible price while ensuring adequate supplies.
