Texas regulators work on demand response, generators to cut risks this summer

The Public Utility Commission of Texas is working on demandresponserules and communicating with Electric Reliability Council ofTexas market participants to reduce the risk of energy emergencies inthis summer's tight supply conditions, attendees of Thursday's PUCmeeting learned.ERCOT currently projects that its planning reserve margin for thesummer of 2019 would be about 7.4%, well below the 13.75% target setby the PUC, considered necessary to ensure that a capacity-relatedblackout occurs no more often than once in 10 years. The planningreserve margin is the amount of resources expected to be availablewhen peakload occurs.
