FERC seeks clarity on SPP plan requiring variable resources to become dispatchable

Southwest Power Pool's proposal requiring most variable energyresources in its footprint to be dispatchable left Federal EnergyRegulatory Commission staff with questions on its implementation andimpacts, according to a letter sent to the grid operator Thursday.SPP's proposal, aimed at improving reliability and correctingmarket inefficiencies, would require variable energy resources toregister as and convert to dispatchable variable energy resources bythe later of January 1, 2021, or the 10-year anniversary of their originalcommercial operation date, according to a November 16 tariff filing(ER19-356).
