PG&E Corp., utility unit file for bankruptcy as operations continue

PG&E Corp. and its utility subsidiary Pacific Gas and Electric filed for Chapter 11 protection in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California early on Tuesday morning, and by midafternoon had submitted 67 "first-day" filings seeking the court’s approval to fund various parts of its businesses, including its natural gas, electric power and nuclear operations.
