Invenergy insists Rhode Island power plant project still to be built despite FERC ruling

A proposed 485-MW, natural gas-fired power plant in Rhode Island will still be built, developer Invenergy said Tuesday, despite federal regulators agreeing to end the capacity supply obligation for the plant. “This ruling does not impact the future of the project or Invenergy’s commitment to Rhode Island,” Invenergy spokeswoman Beth Conley said in an email. “While delays have shifted our timeline, the permitting process continues, and we’re confident this important affordable energy source for Rhode Island will be built. As power prices in Rhode Island rise to the highest in the country, including the cold weather price spike happening this week, the need for this project is only growing."
