Operating the Loviisa nuclear plant for an additional 20 years wouldhave minimal additional environmental impact compared withpermanently closing the plant in 2030, Finnish power company Fortumsaid in an environmental impact assessment released Sept. 6.Fortum owns and operates the two-unit plant. Both units areVVER-440s, with 531 MW of installed capacity each.Currently, Loviisa-1 is licensed to operate until 2027 and Loviisa-2until 2030. If approval were given for a maximum 20 years additionaloperating time, the plant would be permanently closed in 2050.
