IAEA sees achievements, challenges ahead in Fukushima I decommissioning

The International Atomic Energy Agency said in a statement Aug. 27that it saw “considerable achievements over the past decade, as wellas major challenges ahead” in Tokyo Electric Power Co.’sdecommissioning of the six boiling water reactors at Tepco'sFukushima I plant.A 12-member IAEA mission reviewed from June 30 to Aug. 27Tepco’s decommissioning efforts at the request of Japan’s Ministry ofEconomy, Trade and Industry. This is the fifth such IAEA mission. METIincludes the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy that overseesTepco’s Fukushima I decommissioning work.
