Canada supreme court rules in favor of Cameco in tax dispute

The Supreme Court of Canada declined Feb. 18 to hear an appeal bythe Canada Revenue Agency of lower court rulings in favor of uraniumproducer Cameco in a 13-year tax dispute.In September 2018, the Tax Court of Canada ruled in favor ofCameco’s challenge of a reassessment by the CRA of the amount oftaxes the company needed to pay for the 2003, 2005 and 2006 taxyears. The tax court in April 2019 awarded Cameco C$28.15 million(roughly US$22.2 million) in legal fees and costs incurred due to thetax dispute.
