A group of lawmakers are pushing legislation that wouldngive American motorists a financial incentive to get rid ofntheir gas-guzzling pick-up trucks and sport utility vehicles.nThe so-called “Cash for Clunkers” bill (S. 247), sponsorednby Senator Dianne Feinstein and other lawmakers, would providenmotorists with a tax credit of up to $4,500 for trading innbig trucks, SUVs and cars that get less than 18 miles per gallon.nMotorists would receive vouchers that they could use tonpurchase more fuel-efficient vehicles, and their old, gas-guzzlersnwould be scrapped so they would be resold and returnednto the roads.
