NV Energy pitches solar-plus-storage projects to replace coal plant

A red-hot market for large-scale battery-backed photovoltaic power plants, Nevada is adding to a rapidly expanding queue of solar-plusstorage complexes intended to help the state meet a 50% renewable portfolio standard by 2030 and eliminate carbon-dioxide emissions from its power mix by midcentury. NV Energy Inc., the state's largest utility, is seeking approval from the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada for agreements underpinning a pair of projects pitched in Humboldt County, Nev. - the 250-MW Iron Point Solar Project, combined with 200 MW of battery storage, and the 350-MW Hot Pot Solar Project, with 280 MW of battery storage - the Berkshire Hathaway Energy subsidiary announced June 2.
