Mexico's Cementos Moctezuma to invest $10 mil in pilot solar project

Mexico's Cementos Moctezuma will invest a little more than $10 million to build a solar park at one of the three cement plants it operates in the country as part of a pilot to diversify its sources of energy, company CFO told S&P Global Platts. The plant's development comes as Mexico has seen its solar projections fall from expectations of tremendous growth to now only minor increases over the next decade. The solar facility will have a peak capacity of 13.2 MW/h, which will supply roughly a third of power demand during hours of sun at the Cerritos plant in the state of San Luis Potosi, central Mexico, CFO Luis Rauch told Platts on Nov. 16. The plant will cover about 10% of the total annual energy needed at Cerritos, Rauch said. The company currently sources all of its electricity from the state utility CFE, Rauch said. Construction of the park could begin in approximately nine months upon obtaining a few additional permits, he said.
