摘要

French natural gas storage operator Terega and French hydrogen producer HDF have signed an agreement to develop and offer storage capacity for hydrogen in a salt cavity by 2024, Terega said July 7. This project, also known as HyGeo, aims to study the underground storage of energy via so-called "green" hydrogen, obtained by electrolysis of water, therefore without emission of greenhouse gases. This non-polluting hydrogen will be stored in an abandoned geological cavity previously used for the storage of hydrocarbons. Using high-power fuel cells supplied by HDF, the stored hydrogen will generate electricity, Terega said. The first stage of the HyGeo project is the realization of a feasibility study in order to characterize the site, to validate the capacity of this cavity to store hydrogen and the economic relevance of such storage. To carry out this first phase, the Bureau of Geological and Mining Research (BRGM), will oversee the potential impact on the subsoil in the chosen area. The first phase of the project will start in 2020, with a technical and economic feasibility study. Engineering and construction studies will begin in 2022 for operation in 2024.
