MVP to voluntarily halt gas pipeline construction in sensitive wildlife areas

Days after a coalition of environmental groups sued to challenge the natural gas pipeline’s federal wildlife authorization, Mountain Valley Pipeline said it would voluntarily suspend activities in some areas where construction might come into conflicts with federally listed species. The 300-mile pipeline project, proposed to transport Appalachia Basin-produced gas from West Virginia to Virginia and to markets in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, will suspend work in areas that might involve “a risk of destruction or adverse modification to proposed critical habitat areas,” pipeline developers said in a statement Thursday.
