NYISO expects to have a larger capacity margin surplus this summer than in 2018

The New York Independent System Operator expects tohave a power generation capacity margin of at least 423 MW under itsextreme weather forecast to meet peak demand this summer.Under baseline peak weather conditions, the grid operatorestimates it will have a 2,227 MW capacity margin surplus, which is a628 MW increase over the baseline 2018 forecast, according to a draftpresentation posted on the NYISO website Tuesday.This is the projected capacity margin above the baseline peak loadplus 2,620 MW of operating reserves, the NYISO said.Under extreme weather conditions, called the 90th percentileforecast, NYISO estimates it will have a 423 MW capacity margin surplus,which is up 664 MW compared to the 2018 extreme weather forecast.The 2018 baseline forecast estimated a 1,599 MW capacity marginsurplus and a minus 241 MW capacity margin under the extremeweather forecast.
