Texas day-ahead power falls to the low $20s/MWh on surging wind generation

Next-day prices in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas footprint pressed lower Monday as wind generation was set to increase over 300% overnight amid steady demand. North Hub next-day on-peak prices for Tuesday delivery traded in the low $20s/MWh on the Intercontinental Exchange, down about $14 from prior settlement for Monday delivery. Low wind generation expected on Monday was set to increase overnight, as wind generation was set to rise from 2.9 GW Monday to 12.9 GW Tuesday. On an hourly basis, wind generation was expected to hit as high as 17.6 GW late Tuesday. The grid operator projected daily peakload to reach 43.6 GW Monday and Tuesday, 39.3 GW Wednesday, 44.8 GW Thursday and 45.9 GW Friday. North Hub on-peak prices for Wednesday delivery was valued in the low $20s/MWh, the mid-$30s/MWh for Thursday delivery and the low $30s/MWh for Friday delivery.
