Maine’s Governor Mills endorses NECEC transmission project, but opposition persists

Maine Governor Janet Mills Thursday publicallysupported the 1,200-MW New England Clean Energy Connect powertransmission project, the same day its developers filed a settlementagreement in a regulatory approval proceeding amid opposition fromsome stakeholders.Governor Mills said she ran for office on a platform promisingcarbon emissions reduction and action to mitigate climate change,which is why Mills authorized the Governor’s Office of Energy to signonto a stipulation that requests the Public Utilities Commission toissue a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity to NECEC,according to a statement.
