摘要

The Empire State Building is to undergo an environmental makeover. This, it is projected, will save nearly 40% of its annual energy consumption and at a relatively modest cost. As office rental incomes sink, and new building stalls, environmentally-minded refurbishment is proving a means of increasing building value and tackling the legacy of high emissions from old building stock.rnThere can be few more iconic buildings than the Empire State Building. It stands right up there with the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal. More than 3.5 million tourists visit each year and it is the standard image of a skyscraper, even though it is no longer the tallest in the world by some 1,200 feet.
