The Norwegian government has slashed its reserves estimate for Norway's untouched Lofoten region, seen widely as the potential savior of the country's declining oil fields, by nearly half to 1.3 billion barrels of oil equivalent. The Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF) previously said the Lofoten region, in waters above the Arctic circle, contained some 2 billion barrels of oil equivalent, or 20% of all remaining undiscovered reserves on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, while some estimates predicted as much as 3.4 billion boe.
